This is why the user is unable to kill the Outlook process. Outlook ends up running as "System" only once it crashes and becomes suspended.

Barring that you could always try to blow away the Outlook profile, Repair install(or full scrub removal and reinstall), Backup pst, run scan pst, and then create a brand new profile. If that does not work, check the application log for clues. To prevent the crashing, disable the Com add-ins to see if that solves the crashing. If you can task kill but they cannot (assuming standard vs admin user), then my guess that something is running as an admin in the background. I agree, determining the source of the crash is important. I run taskkill using the PID of Outlook so no risk of killing the AV task. No malware is installed including "search tool bars". No errors on the AV software and AV software is not integrated or have a plugin for Outlook and ignores PST files. Which applications? - It has been Outlook only for the most part but recently one PC had the problem with GoToMeeting. The last thing you want to do is task kill as if you accidentally kill the AV task, you might start a full blown virus in your network. Then do a scan for all the emails in outlook including the PST files. I last seen this type of "action" especially when it is Outlook linked is when there is some virus and/or malware running via emails and the AV tries to stop the spreading by "freezing" some of the programs.ĭo check if the user have installed malware like "speed up", "tune up" and/or "search tool bars" OR any weird software.

What programs and applications are those ? Any errors written in the event log and/or your AV software ? Anyone seen this and know if it can be prevented? The user is forced to log off and log in again or I need to run taskkill and kill it. After it crashes, since the process is still running it, it has a hold on the pst file and prevents a new outlook process from running again. If a user tries to kill the process in the task manager, they get an access denied error.

Does anyone know of a way of stopping Windows 10 from suspending programs? We currently have an issue with a few programs where if they crash for some reason, they stay suspended and then can't be killed.
