Tests showed that the use of a more powerful and high-altitude engine made it possible to increase the service ceiling of the fighter by almost a kilometer and improve the climb rate. The modification was designated the Spitfire Mk.IIa.
#WAR THUNDER SKINS SERIAL#
In July of 1940, the new Merlin XII engine was installed into a serial Spitfire. This premium model carries the livery of A squadron of the 10th regiment of Royal Hussars, 2nd Armoured Brigade of the 1st Armoured Division, which took part in fighting in North Africa in 1941. The armament on the tank is represented by a 40mm Ordnance QF 2 pounder cannon with 110 rounds of ammunition, as well as two 7.92 mm BESA machine guns. The engine installed allows the tank to reach a maximum speed of 42 km/h. As a result of the modernisation, the armour on the tank was strengthened, but the basic design remained unchanged. This modification was developed after it became clear that there was insufficient armour on tanks like the Crusader Mk.I. The Crusader Mk.II cruiser tank was developed in the early 1940’s.
